Creating Content Consistently

Can I go bonkers with content production and see some good ROI?

The internet is full of advice for creating content consistently.

You’ll see things like:

  • 6 months of daily tweeting will change your life.
  • 6 months of daily writing will change your life.
  • 6 months of putting your entire face in a hot waffle iron will positively change your life.

Okay, maybe not the last one.

So is this good advice?

Whilst this advice is good generally (creating daily content) it doesn’t guarantee success.

Typically people who say this either have something to sell you or they are a full-time content creator (or both).

There are loads of people like this whose job is to make marketing and earning online seem easy so you opt into their list.

What they are saying ranges from obvious, to useful to basically a pyramid scheme.

Advice like this 100% true: create good stuff consistently.

Simple does not equal easy though.

The bit these kind of accounts gloss over is what is good and how do you do the work, consistently that benefits a business.

10k+ followers is a vanity metric if no one buys your thing (unless you just enjoy tweeting).

Showing off expertise that aligns with customer problems is literally the point of marketing.

It’s not a big secret.

But doing it is hard.

These kind of threads hype up how simple it is in principle, but massively gloss over actually doing the work.

Growth using the-fuck-around-and-find-out strategy

The ideal strategy is what I have just coined: β€œthe fuck around and find out” strategy:

  • what’s THE UNIQUE THING? – what do I know, what are my skills, what is my angle
  • then you sprinkle that on to each piece of content
  • post consistently, reply to everyone and repeat
  • when you see something working, do more of that

Here’s a detailed analysis of the strategy:

It takes a few months of fucking around and finding out to see what lands, but once you have it, you can rewrite basically the same thing over and over and on multiple platforms.

Accounts are growing to crazy numbers by saying the same thing in different ways (across multiple platforms).

Al my top performing tweets have been pretty spontaneous, but when analysed after the fact, the common theme was they could of only been written by ME.

That was my advantage (an advantage everyone has).

And just to highlight that, it’s a bit platform-specific to Twitter (but applies to the internet in general because of the culture of the internet) – but personality & humour often out performs:

So whilst not a direct answer to the question: yes you could go bonkers on Twitter and see some good ROI.

I would strongly suggest figuring what THE UNIQUE THING is first.
